A Bit Out Of Touch

Monday, July 24th, 2006

It has been a busy time and I guess I didn’t realize that a record 10 days have passed since my last blog. I promise to try not to let that happen again as I know many people check in regularly on my blog.

So, lots of news, first my game update. My luck with WSOP cards has not change much, but improve a bit as I have now made one dinner break WOO HOO! Poker can make you very humble and hopefully able to laugh at yourself at times. Along that line you may have read the article that Tim Lavalli did on my confidence on Poker News. I felt like the cold decks I was seeing were really getting to me, and I felt like I was losing my confidence and motivation. So, instead of taking some time off (which is a typical poker player way to change a “streak”) I decided to go and play my high limit cash game, my strongest game as I shared in my last blog.

I have been actively playing my cash games since then which has made me scarce in the WSOP Tournament room. So, of course, people have been asking why I am not playing more WSOP Tournament Events- as this is the Big Tournament Series of the Year. My response is “why play when you know you are running bad?” As a player playing poker as a profession daily, you have a sense of how your game is running, and you adapt…. Because I have been running strong in my cash games, that is where I am focused. I see my Poker Game as having three parts. One, Tournament Play, Two, Cash Game Play, Three Business and Media Details. I basically balance these three parts as they seems to make sense at the time.

One of the fun and exciting things I am working on is the Launch of a new Energy Juice- KABOOM. I was actually part of the meeting getting it set up for distribution here in Nevada the other day and it was weird and fun to see how the business side of things get put together. We are not going to compete with the “Bull” our product is a natural juice based one so different and we will be part of lots of fun events coming soon. I will keep you updated and invite you whenever I can. I let the PR people tell you the rest when they make a formal announcement. I actually shared it with the Swedish TV Crew that was here at my house this weekend.

Swedish TV- okay these guys are a hoot! Europeans, men especially, are different than American men- not better just different. For example would you see two famous American TV Hosts run and jump into a pool and swim over and interview you- that is what these two crazy guys did as part of my feature with them this weekend. I will hopefully get a clip sometime in the future when they are done with it.

Then the really fun and mostly surprising thing… my best friend John threw me a surprise birthday party a week before my birthday (just to be sneaky and miss the WSOP Main Event). It was at PURE at Caesars Palace, he reserved the dance floor, had balloons, flowers, a cake, the works and it was very thoughtful and beautiful. Lots of fun friends and poker people were there and lucky for me I am a natural primper and when my friends decided to go out, my business manager insisted I wear my new Cavalli runway piece which I have been dying to wear so it didn’t;t take much encouragement at all! I had been hearing a bit of a buzz and a few people asked me about “my party” so I was mostly surprised but not shocked. Thanks John, you’re an awesome friend! Enjoy the photos- I’ll be back in a day or two with my Main Event start date and my Gaming Life Expo schedule and a special announcement on Wednesday regarding my poster collection launch and store…

Here are pics for you to enjoy…..

The Weekend & The Rumors

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Since I busted during the first day again, I decided I would gather friends together for a table at Jet Nightclub at the Mirage. So I called John to see if he was in and then we called around to get a group going. It was mostly the usual suspects, John Phan, some of John’s friends, my good girlfriends, Joe Sebok, and some other poker players joined like Gavin Smith, so it was a fun group. Of course we had fun with the camera so here are a few of the pics… boy it felt good to blow off a bit of WSOP steam and get a way for a few hours :)
One of the topics I wanna share about is that this WSOP we are seeing lots more reporting and blogging than ever. There are record numbers of reporters, photographers and news sources here- it is great for poker to get this global coverage, good for all of us. Me included…

I have found I can now share more and I have always wanted to communicate back with people who are writing me, and sometimes it is hard due to timing. So, while you might agree or disagree with my thoughts and observations, I stay focused on what I know, my own information, I am not an expert, just a professional poker player who is trying to share with others. Unfortunately, this year it seems like there are lots more rumors in blogs than ever. Some of the ones about me are particularly funny, and, I thought you should hear the latest one since it seems so silly I thought you might get a laugh as well. I included my personal response to clarify any confusion just in case someone reads it who doesn’t know me. It’s be great if we could all focus on poker but I guess there isn’t much to write about my “cold card” WSOP game right now so then the rumors begin…

Rumor- Liz is paying photographers & media not to take pictures of other players, especially women.

My response- Hmmm, I never thought of that, but it seems mean spirited to block players from coverage and I simply don’t understand why I wouldn’t want other players and poker to get coverage. I value the media & blogger relationships that I have and appreciate whatever coverage they are willing to provide. Poker is a very small world and I try to get along with everyone because we are all going to be here day in and out doing our jobs. So, I hope to continue to play in a way that I keep getting covered. I am sure that I have no advantage over any other players out there and not sure how this rumor would start. But, more important it seems a bit insulting to the professional media & photographers covering the event to imagine that they could be bought to alter coverage of a world class sporting event.

So, Back to the game…

I played again today the Limit Holdem Event and my cards are not improving. If my cash game was suffering like my tournament game I would be concerned, but I know I will work through this dry spell, I am just hoping that I do it prior to the end of the WSOP!!! I will keep at it and hope for the cards to come.

Back soon- Liz
